Franklin Fueling Systems APT AST-2922 grade level transition sump

Overview

Transition sumps contain the points in a piping system where pipe changes type, branches or needs regular inspection. The AST-2922 is a grade-level sump for remote dispensing from aboveground storage tanks: steel pipe from the tank and flexible pipe to the dispensers both enter through APT flexible entry boots, and the joint between them sits inside the sump, isolated from the soil. It can stand inside or outside a containment dike, its 30" burial depth lets it serve as the system low point for leak detection, and its composite cover carries an H-20 load rating (pipe entries through the lid cancel that rating).

For below-grade work, the TS-2430, TS-3630 and TS-4230 are one-piece HDPE sumps for low-cost retrofits and shallow burials. The TS-2430 has an 18" bolt-down watertight lid and suits line branches and contained splices, while the 36" and 42" bases of the TS-3630 and TS-4230 give room for submersibles and fittings under a 597 mm bolt-down lid. Their tapered shape lets all three fit under an economical 30" manway.

The IPS-2424 and IPS-3636 intermediate piping sumps, 24" and 36" square, hold a tee between dispenser islands, contained splices or branch points, and make a good low-point sensor chamber between the tanks and the islands. Both have an 18" bolt-down watertight lid. Franklin also makes grade-level and wall transition sleeves for generator and boiler supply lines. Apex supplies and installs transition sumps for aboveground tank sites and complex piping layouts.

Questions

APT® Transition and Intermediate Piping Sumps: common questions

What is the AST-2922 used for?
It contains the connection between steel pipe from an aboveground tank and flexible pipe running to the dispensers, keeping the metal pipe isolated from the soil. It can be installed inside or outside a containment dike.
Is the AST-2922 cover load rated?
Yes, the composite cover is H-20 load rated, but pipe entries installed through the lid cancel that rating.
Which sump suits a tee between dispenser islands?
The IPS-2424 or IPS-3636 intermediate piping sump, which can also serve as the low-point sensor chamber between the tanks and the islands.
