Water-resistant toggle-lid sumps for 36" manways and one-piece 4542 Series sumps for 42" manways
Overview
Franklin's APT polyethylene tank sumps come in two designs for different manway sizes. The water-resistant TSM-W-4736 and TSD-W-4736 stand on a 47" (1,192 mm) base and fit under a standard 36" (900 mm) manway. The one-piece 4542 Series uses a 45" base sized for a 42" manway.
On the water-resistant models the lid does the work. Four integrated toggles pull a gasketed lid down onto the riser, compressing the seal without any bolts through the sump, so no new leak paths are made. The base has 16 flat faces so each pipe enters at a true 90 degrees. The wall is 7 mm (0.3") polyethylene and the ribbed riser can be cut on site in 110 mm (4.3") steps with ordinary tools. Medium burial models run from 810 to 1,140 mm high and deep burial models from 810 to 1,471 mm. Both are ULc listed.
The 4542 Series is a simpler, economical one-piece HDPE sump with a factory-fitted gasket and a snap-on lid with a large grip handle. Its 16 side panels allow pipe entry from almost any direction, the ribbed riser adjusts in 3" steps, and it comes in shallow, medium and deep burial depths. An optional inspection port lets a technician look inside without lifting the lid, and 22" and 24" manway adapters are listed. Apex supplies and installs both types.

Questions
APT® Polyethylene Tank Sumps: common questions
- Which manway does each sump fit?
- The water-resistant TSM-W-4736 and TSD-W-4736 fit a standard 36" (900 mm) manway. The 4542 Series fits a 42" manway.
- How does the water-resistant lid seal?
- Four toggles compress the lid gasket against the riser. There are no bolts or penetrations through the sump, so the seal does not create new leak paths.
- Can the sump height be adjusted?
- Yes. The water-resistant riser is cut down in 110 mm (4.3") increments and the 4542 Series riser in 3" steps, using standard tools.
