Corrosion Control™ Water Separator

Pump-driven, filter-free removal of water and acid from diesel tank bottoms

Franklin Corrosion Control Water Separator

Overview

Water that settles under diesel is where tank corrosion starts, and removing it by hand is slow and irregular. The Corrosion Control™ Water Separator does it on a schedule, using equipment already in the sump. It taps flow from a 4" FE PETRO® submersible pump through an eductor, which creates a vacuum that draws liquid from the very bottom of the tank. The water and acid mixture drops out in the separator vessel and the clean fuel goes straight back into the tank.

The EVO™ 600 or 6000 console runs it. After every delivery the separator runs for 45 minutes, and it runs again once a day at a quiet time to catch any water that has settled. During each run the console opens a solenoid valve while a flow switch confirms fuel is moving. An LL3 probe in the vessel tells the console when it is full and needs emptying, which Franklin puts at two to three times a year, depending on whether the site is new or a retrofit.

The vessel holds 3/4 gallon of water/acid mixture and has no filter element, so there are no cartridges to buy. Construction is all stainless steel from UL recognised components, it mounts on any 4" riser, and the adjustable suction kit suits tanks up to 10' in diameter. The sump needs at least 30" of height and an 11" clear envelope. Apex installs the separator on diesel tanks in Lebanon with the required EVO relay and probe inputs.

Questions

Corrosion Control™ Water Separator: common questions

How often does the Water Separator run?
The EVO console runs it for 45 minutes after each delivery and once a day during a non-peak time.
Does it need filters?
No. The vessel is element-free; the collected water/acid mixture is emptied by a technician, typically two to three times a year.
What pump does it need?
Any new or existing 4" FE PETRO submersible turbine pump supplies the flow that drives it.
