Franklin Corrosion Control Desiccant Pack

Overview

Submersible pumps, fittings and other hardware in a closed tank sump corrode because warm, humid air condenses on cold metal. The Corrosion Control™ Desiccant Pack stops this at low cost by absorbing moisture from the sump air before it turns into water. Each pack holds 400-450 grams of a calcium chloride and starch blend formulated for petroleum use, inside a Tyvek® spunbond enclosure that is easy to remove and dispose of.

A pack is 24" tall, 4¾" wide and 3¼" in diameter, so it passes through a 4" multiport inspection opening. It hangs from a #4 stainless steel grommet with the supplied cable ties and needs no servicing. Franklin tested a typical service life of 4 to 6 months in a 75-100 cubic foot tank sump. Packs are sealed in foil barrier bags for storage and sold in sixes.

The Desiccant Pack Sensor (FMP-DPS-U) removes the guesswork about when to change them. Packs hang from the sensor, which weighs them as they take on water and calculates an estimated percentage of life remaining. The EVO™ console shows that figure, a status that warns when the desiccant is near or at saturation, and a trend showing whether the pack is actively drying or just holding the humidity level. On EVO 600/6000 it connects through the FMP-UDP9 or TS-PRB module. Apex plans pack changes from these readings for operators in Lebanon.

Questions

Corrosion Control™ Desiccant Pack and Sensor: common questions

How long does a desiccant pack last?
Franklin tested a typical service life of 4 to 6 months in a 75-100 cubic foot tank sump.
How does the sensor know a pack is used up?
It weighs the hanging pack as it absorbs water and calculates an estimated percent of life remaining, shown on the EVO console.
How many packs can hang from one sensor?
The product page says one or two; the newer FFS-0856 datasheet says its hangers accommodate up to four.
