CableTight™ Direct Bury System

Liquid-tight sump entries for cables buried without conduit

Franklin CableTight direct bury system

Overview

Some cables on a forecourt are never run in conduit. Grounding conductors and armoured power cable are commonly buried straight in the trench, and where they pass into a tank or dispenser sump they still need a seal that keeps water and vapour out. The CableTight™ Direct Bury System provides that entry for cables of 5 mm to 16 mm.

Two electrofusion entry seals are offered: the 302-DBC with a single entry and the 303-2DBC with two. Like the rest of the CableTight range they are welded to the containment wall, so the seal and the sump become one piece. Each entry is fitted with a compression grommet chosen for the cable: three-way 5-6 mm grommets for sensors and tank gauge wiring, 7-9 mm for tank grounding, 9-11 mm for payment terminal cable, 12-14 mm for power and 14-16 mm for dispenser hook signal wiring. Grommets are slotted so the cable can be laid in rather than threaded, and a compression nut on the inside locks everything tight.

Blank grommets keep an entry sealed for future cables or line testing, and plugs from 3 mm to 18 mm close any unused holes. Installation needs the matching welding clamp, 302-CLAMP or 303-CLAMP-1. Maximum vapour seal penetration into the containment is 50 mm. Apex uses direct bury entries alongside conduit systems where Lebanese site wiring includes buried armoured cable.

Questions

CableTight™ Direct Bury System: common questions

What cable sizes can a direct bury entry seal take?
Cables from 5 mm to 16 mm, using the grommet that matches each cable diameter.
Is there a seal for two buried cables?
Yes. The 303-2DBC double direct bury entry seal has two entries; the 302-DBC has one.
