Franklin Fueling Systems Guardian Series variable frequency controller

Overview

A variable speed FE PETRO pump is only as good as the controller driving it. The Guardian Series variable frequency controller is Franklin's latest drive for 2 Hp and 4 Hp variable speed pumps. It raises and lowers motor speed with demand so each nozzle sees steady flow at peak times, while keeping pressure spikes, system wear and energy use down when the forecourt is quiet.

Compared with the earlier MagVFC, Franklin lists a set of upgrades: a 3½-digit display with separate Reset and Silence/Calibrate buttons, storage of the last five faults instead of three, motor phase diagnostics and unbalanced-load warnings, a USB port for fault-log download and firmware updates, a bypass mode that runs the pump at fixed frequency for 600 seconds during purging and troubleshooting, an output filter that cuts electrical noise, stronger surge protection and better cooling. It also boosts 4 Hp performance enough to support an additional nozzle. Through the Turbine Pump Interface on RS485, it links to EVO Series consoles for pump automation and remote troubleshooting.

The controller runs on 200-250 VAC, single-phase for 2 Hp pumps or three-phase for 2 Hp and 4 Hp, with a maximum line draw of 20 A. It is a UL Type 1 indoor unit for non-hazardous locations, measures 15.61 x 5.3 x 10.1 in and weighs 20.2 lb. The datasheet lists model 5874202220 for 60 Hz, 220 V; for 50 Hz supplies Franklin's EN catalogue pairs variable speed pumps with the MagVFC or EcoVFC, and Apex confirms the right controller for each site.

Questions

Guardian Series™ Variable Frequency Controller: common questions

Which pumps does the Guardian Series VFC control?
FE PETRO 2 Hp and 4 Hp variable speed submersible pumps. Its output is valid for FE PETRO variable speed pumps only.
What is bypass mode?
A mode that runs the pump at a fixed frequency for start-up purging and system troubleshooting, with a 600 second countdown shown on the display.
Can it connect to an EVO console?
Yes. The RS485 Turbine Pump Interface connects it to EVO Series fuel management systems for pump automation and remote troubleshooting.
