Franklin Fueling Systems standard product and water float kit

Overview

A magnetostrictive probe measures nothing on its own. It reads the positions of the magnetic floats that ride on its shaft. Franklin's standard float kits supply those floats as a matched pair: a product float that sits on the fuel surface and a weighted water float that sinks through the fuel and rests on any water layer at the tank bottom. One kit is ordered for each probe.

Kits are made for 2" and 4" riser openings, in separate gasoline and diesel versions. The water float ballast is stainless steel or nickel plated brass, and the floats are built from nitrile rubber and PVDF, which suit a wide range of petroleum products. Colour tells the versions apart in the field: water floats are red for gasoline and blue for diesel.

Riser size also affects how low the floats can read. With a 4" gasoline set (TSP-IGF4), water is detected from 0.75" and product from 4.25". The 2" gasoline set (TSP-IGF2) reads water from 1.00" and product from 7.73". Where an earlier water warning is needed, Franklin offers the low level water float for diesel or a phase separation kit for gasoline and ethanol blends.

Apex supplies the right float kit with every probe it installs in Lebanon and replaces worn floats during service visits.

Questions

Standard Float Kits: common questions

How do I tell a gasoline float kit from a diesel one?
By the water float colour: red for gasoline and blue for diesel.
Does the riser size matter?
Yes. Kits are made for 2" or 4" openings, and the 4" kits read water and product closer to the tank bottom.
How many float kits are needed?
One float set per probe.
