Phase Separation Float Kits
One float that warns of water or phase-separated fuel in gasoline tanks

Overview
Ethanol-blended gasoline absorbs water, and if too much water enters the tank the ethanol and water drop out of the fuel together as a separate layer at the bottom. Franklin's phase separation kits use a water float that rises on either plain water or the phase-separated layer, so one float covers both risks.
Each kit has a product float for fuel level and the water and phase separation float. They come in 2" (TSP-IGF2P) and 4" (TSP-IGF4P) sizes, rated for gasoline and E15 or lower ethanol blends. Once the console sees the float rise, it can be set to shut down the submersible pump before contaminated fuel is drawn into a customer's vehicle. That turns an inventory reading into protection for the station's reputation.
With the 4" kit, water or a phase layer is detected from 0.75" (1.91 cm) and product from 4.25" (10.80 cm). The 2" kit reads from 1.00" and 7.73" respectively. The kits fit all Franklin probes, with options for the EVO™ 200/400, 550/5000 and 600/6000. On older T5 Series and Colibri gauges, software version 1.8.0 is required, which Franklin offers as a free upgrade.
Apex supplies and fits phase separation float kits in Lebanon for stations selling ethanol-blended gasoline.

Questions
Phase Separation Float Kits: common questions
- What is phase separation?
- When ethanol-blended gasoline takes on too much water, the ethanol and water separate out as a layer at the tank bottom. The phase separation float rises on that layer as well as on plain water.
- Which fuels are the kits rated for?
- Gasoline and ethanol blends up to E15.
- Does it work with older consoles?
- Yes, with software version 1.8.0 on T5 Series and Colibri gauges, which Franklin offers as a free upgrade. Options also exist for EVO™ consoles.
