DC400 Dispensing Cutoff System
Stand-alone sump sensor and controller that cut power when liquid is found

Overview
The DC400 gives a station automatic shutdown on sump leaks without a tank gauge and without new cabling. It has two parts: the explosion-proof 404-4 controller and the intrinsically safe S404 liquid sensor. The controller mounts inside the containment sump and is wired into the existing pump or dispenser power circuit. If the sensor finds liquid, the controller breaks that circuit and fuel stops flowing.
That makes it a retrofit tool. Sites facing new sump monitoring rules can comply without closing the forecourt to break concrete and pull new conduit. Placed in a turbine sump, the DC400 stops the whole pump. Placed in a dispenser sump, it stops only the dispenser that has the problem, and the others keep trading. Dispenser installs need an electrical junction box with an open conduit hub. Franklin also lists TS-FE and TS-RJ junction box adapters for FE Petro and Red Jacket pumps.
The S404 detects water from 0.98" (25 mm) in under one second and resets on its own once the liquid is removed. The sensor is connected with the supplied watertight splice kit and hung so it just touches the sump floor. Note the limits: the DC400 is not for 3-phase motors or variable frequency drives, and older 404-4, S406 and S404 parts cannot be mixed with current ones, so both must be replaced together.
Apex supplies and installs DC400 systems in Lebanon on stations that need sump shutdown without a full monitoring system.
Key features
- Two-part system: 404-4 controller and S404 liquid sensor
- Connects to existing pump or dispenser wiring, with no new conduit
- Shuts down a whole pump or a single dispenser, depending on placement
- Detection in under 1 second; water detected from 0.98" (25 mm)
- Automatic reset when the liquid is removed
- Intrinsically safe sensor and explosion-proof controller
- TS-FE and TS-RJ adapters for FE Petro and Red Jacket pumps

Questions
DC400 Dispensing Cutoff System: common questions
- Does the DC400 need a tank gauge?
- No. It is a stand-alone controller and sensor that work on the existing pump or dispenser power circuit.
- Can it be used with 3-phase pumps?
- No. Franklin states it is not for 3-phase motors or variable frequency drive installations.
- Can a new sensor be used with an old 404-4 controller?
- No. Earlier 404-4, S406 and S404 versions are not compatible with current parts, so the controller and sensor are replaced together.
