EBW® Product Shear Valves
Emergency shut-off under the dispenser for impact and fire

Overview
Every pressurised dispenser sits on a product line that must close itself if the cabinet is knocked over or catches fire. The EBW® product shear valve is that safeguard. It is mounted at grade in the dispenser sump, with the shear groove positioned so that an impact snaps the upper adapter cleanly and leaves the sealing body below intact. When the adapter breaks away, the spring-loaded poppet seats against the valve body and fuel stays in the pipe.
Fire is handled separately. A fusible link holds the fulcrum arm open; heat melts the link at 165.0 °F (73.9 °C) and the arm releases, driving the poppet shut even if nothing has been hit. Single poppet versions stop flow coming up from the submersible pump. Double poppet versions add a second seal on the dispenser side so the product held in the dispenser piping cannot drain back out.
Because the main poppet seals inside the body, a damaged adapter can be swapped without draining the line, and the adapters slide on and off the base without lifting the dispenser. Each valve ships with a pre-drilled test plug for line pressure testing, and the 1½" openings keep flow restriction low. Male, female and union tops are offered in NPT, with BSPT versions for markets that use British threads. Apex supplies these valves for new forecourts and for dispenser replacements across Lebanon, and fits them to the correct height during installation.

Questions
EBW® Product Shear Valves: common questions
- What closes an EBW product shear valve during a fire?
- A fusible link holds the fulcrum arm. It melts at 165.0 °F (73.9 °C), which releases the arm and closes the poppet without any impact.
- Should I choose a single or double poppet valve?
- A single poppet valve stops product coming from the pump. A double poppet valve also seals the dispenser side, so fuel in the dispenser piping is held as well.
- Are BSPT threads available?
- Yes. Franklin lists single and double poppet models in male and female 1½" BSPT alongside the NPT range.
