Tank-top vent fittings that can be serviced from grade

Franklin Fueling Systems EBW extractor vent valve

Overview

The vent and vapour connections on top of an underground tank must stay serviceable for decades, yet the tank opening is buried below the manway. EBW® extractor vent valves solve this by fitting into a 4" tank opening and holding a removable cage. Using Franklin's five-foot extractor wrench, a technician can lift the cage out from grade, or drop in a 4" test plug to isolate the vent piping from the tank during testing.

Extractor bodies are E-coated for full compatibility with alcohol blends and biodiesel, and they come with a choice of 2" or 3" outlets, plus three-way versions with a second outlet for manifolded tanks or Stage II vapour recovery returns. NPT, BSPP and BSPT threads are listed.

Ball float vent valves go inside the extractor fitting on a Stage I vapour riser or vent line. If the tank is overfilled, the stainless steel ball rises and restricts venting, which protects against product mixing between manifolded tanks and against vapour locks caused by a flooded vent pipe. They come with a brass cage that fits all EBW® extractor fittings. Franklin warns that the 308 Series must only be used on gravity drop deliveries, never with suction pumps, pump-off unloading or coaxial Stage I drop tubes. For manifolded vents there is also a 3" × 3" × 2" BSPT aluminium float vent valve with a stainless steel ball. Apex fits these parts during tank installation and vent upgrades in Lebanon.

Questions

EBW® Extractor and Float Vent Valves: common questions

Can ball float vent valves be used on suction pump systems?
No. Franklin restricts the 308 Series to gravity drop systems and warns against suction pumps, pump-off unloading and coaxial Stage I drop tubes.
How is vent piping isolated for a test?
The extractor cage is removed with the 5' extractor wrench and the 39120101 4" test plug is inserted to seal the vent piping from the tank.
