Franklin APT XP 4 inch pipe ducting

Overview

APT® XP pipe ducting is a 4" conduit laid in the trench first, with the flexible fuel pipe fed through it. It is a decision made once, at construction, that pays off years later. If a line has to be replaced, or the station adds a product or a dispenser island, new pipe can be pulled through the duct instead of breaking the forecourt open. Franklin recommends running spare ducts as empty lines for exactly that reason.

The duct is co-extruded with two walls that do different jobs. The corrugated outer wall is high density polyethylene, thick enough not to collapse under backfill and resistant to cracking. The inner wall is linear low density polyethylene with a low-friction surface, so pipe slides through smoothly during installation and later removal. The material is UV resistant, so stored coils do not degrade on site. Ducting is sold as DUCT-XP-400-250, a 250' coil.

At the sump wall the duct must seal as well as the pipe. It installs directly into Franklin's entry boots with no extra bushing or V-seal. Choices include flexible ducted entry boots (DEB) and APT® ducted rigid entry boots (RDEB) for flat sump surfaces in each XP size. For polyethylene sumps there are fusion ducted entry boots, which electrofusion-weld the boot, duct and sump into one watertight structure, with test ports on both the boot and its reducer.

Apex supplies and installs XP ducting and entry boots in Lebanon, and recommends spare ducts on new forecourts.
