Franklin Fueling Systems EBW drop tube

Overview

A drop tube carries fuel from the fill adapter down to near the bottom of the tank, so deliveries enter below the liquid surface. Submerged filling is faster and produces fewer vapours and less evaporation than letting fuel fall through the tank. EBW drop tubes fit directly into the riser of conventional and dual-point vapour recovery fill systems, seat on a flared end with a Buna-N gasket, and are supplied with a straight-cut bottom so the installer can cut them to length on site.

Two wall thicknesses are made. Thin wall tubes (0.035" on 2" and 0.042" on 3") are light and easy to handle, while heavy wall 4" tubes (0.062") are more durable and carry CARB EVR Phase 1 certification VR-101. 4" tubes come in 10', 12' and 15' lengths, with biofuel-compatible versions for E85 and biodiesel. They are for use with outside-clamping drop elbows only, never with inside-expanding elbows.

Where a tanker cannot reach the tank, or deliveries should happen away from busy areas, the EBW remote fill kit (72" top tube) lets the tank be filled from a remote point while still allowing it to be dipped through the main fill adapter. For tanks fitted with a Defender Series overfill prevention valve, the remote fill splice kit converts a standard drop tube for remote filling: a gasketed splice is roll-crimped inside the tube and an external O-ring seals it in a locally supplied 4" tee, while the open tube still allows the OPV to be tested remotely. Apex supplies and fits drop tubes and remote fill kits.

Questions

EBW® Drop Tubes and Remote Fill Kits: common questions

Why fill through a drop tube?
It delivers fuel below the liquid surface. Franklin notes this fills faster and generates fewer vapours and less evaporation.
Can the drop tube be shortened?
Yes. Tubes are supplied with a straight-cut bottom that is cut to the required length on the job site.
Which drop elbows can be used?
Only outside-clamping drop elbows on the adapter. Inside-expanding drop elbows must not be used with these tubes.
