MS_EXIA Probe
Magnetostrictive level, water and temperature probe for standard fuel tanks.

Overview
The MS_EXIA is the probe that sits inside each standard-size tank in a Maser TankSmart installation. It reports three values continuously: the product level, the water level at the bottom of the tank and the fuel temperature. Those readings are what the console and the TankSmart software use to calculate stock, spot leaks and reconcile deliveries, so the quality of the probe sets the quality of every figure further up the chain.
Inside the stainless-steel stem runs a wire of magnetostrictive material. Floats carrying magnets slide on the stem and magnetise the wire at the exact height of the product and of the water. The electronics in the head send current pulses down the wire; where the pulse field meets the float field a torsional wave forms and travels back to the head, and the travel time gives the float position. Temperature is derived in the same measuring cycle. Because nothing mechanical wears, the probe needs no routine maintenance and runs a permanent self-diagnosis.
Measuring length goes up to 6 m, which covers the usual underground and aboveground station tanks. All wetted parts are stainless steel (316 AISI rod, 304 AISI head) and one float type works with every fuel on the market. The head is rated IP68 for 24 hours at 10 m of water, and the probe carries ATEX, PESO and OIML R85 approvals. It talks RS485 over an M12 plug on a 12-24 Vdc supply, or wirelessly to the R_SMART TOP console where cabling is difficult.
Apex supplies, installs and services MS_EXIA probes in Lebanon, for new TankSmart systems and for adding tanks to an existing one.

Questions
MS_EXIA Probe: common questions
- How long can an MS_EXIA probe be?
- The standard probe measures over a length of up to 6 m. For deeper or larger tanks Maser offers the flexible MS_EXIA FLEX, which reaches 25 m.
- Does it measure water as well as fuel?
- Yes. A separate water float detects water at the tank bottom with ± 0.25 mm accuracy and a 23 mm sensitivity threshold, alongside the product level and temperature.
- Do I need a different float for diesel and gasoline?
- No. Maser uses a single float design for all fuels on the market.
- Can the probe work without a cable to the console?
- Yes, a wireless connection to the Maser R_SMART TOP console is available as an option. The wired version uses RS485 through an M12 connector.
