Maser MS_EXIA FLEX flexible tank probe with corrugated tube and bottom weight

Overview

Rigid probes stop being practical once a tank gets tall: a 15 or 20 m stainless rod is hard to ship, hard to lift into place and hard to keep straight. The MS_EXIA FLEX solves this for depot and terminal tanks by putting the magnetostrictive measuring wire inside a corrugated stainless tube that can be folded for transport and then hung straight inside the tank. It measures up to 25 m.

Installation relies on gravity. A weight at the lower end stretches the tube along its full length so it hangs vertically, and a magnet holds the bottom firmly in position. Once in place, the product float and the water float (both Ø 98 mm) slide freely along the tube, and the probe head converts the returning torsional waves into level, water and temperature readings exactly as the rigid MS_EXIA does. The fixing uses an R 3/4 NPT threaded unit with roughly 500 mm of adjustment, and 1 1/2" threaded connections are also possible.

Accuracy is ± 1 mm for both product and water with ± 0.2 mm repeatability, and level measurement starts 185 mm from the bottom. Temperature is measured from -40 °C to +80 °C, to ± 0.2 °C between -20 °C and +70 °C. The head is IP68 and the probe holds ATEX and OIML R85 approvals. Like the standard probe it can report to the R_SMART TOP console over a cable or, as an option, wirelessly.

Apex supplies, installs and services the MS_EXIA FLEX in Lebanon for fuel depots and large storage tanks that need the same stock control as a service station.

Questions

MS_EXIA FLEX Probe: common questions

When should I choose the FLEX probe over the standard MS_EXIA?
When the tank is deeper than the standard probe's 6 m range or the probe has to be shipped and handled compactly. The FLEX measures up to 25 m and folds for transport.
How does a flexible probe stay straight?
A weight at the lower end pulls the corrugated tube taut along its full length and a magnet holds the bottom in place, so the floats travel on a vertical line.
What accuracy does it give?
± 1 mm for product and water levels with ± 0.2 mm repeatability, according to Maser's datasheet.
