SMARTFLEX entry boots (penetration fittings)
Electrofusion and composite seals where pipes and cables pass through sump walls.
Overview
Every pipe that enters a tank or dispenser sump has to pass through the sump wall without letting groundwater in or fuel out. SMARTFLEX entry boots, which NUPI also calls penetration fittings, make that seal. The main range is electrofusion: models SEBE and SEBEP are welded to the sump with the same welding unit used for the pipework, and can also be fitted on the outside of the sump to leave more working room inside. They cover pipe sizes from 1 inch (32 mm) to 5 inch (125 mm) and suit both single and double wall lines.
For other situations NUPI offers metal and rubber composite boots (SEB) from 3/4 inch (25 mm) to 5 inch (125 mm), built so no metal part is left exposed to the soil. Termination boots SEBTF and SEBTFV close 3 inch (90 mm) double wall lines at the sump wall. Fibreglass sumps have their own boots with aluminium flanges: SEBEFM for single wall and SEBEF for double wall sumps, the latter allowing glycol monitoring of the sump's interstitial space (NUPI warns against brine). Cable boots (SEBEPC, SEBEC) bring power and data ducts into the sump.

SMARTFLEX entry boots (penetration fittings): common questions
- Can SMARTFLEX entry boots be used on fibreglass sumps?
- Yes. NUPI makes SEBEFM boots for single wall and SEBEF boots for double wall fibreglass sumps, both with aluminium flanges.
- What fluid should be used to monitor a double wall sump with SEBEF boots?
- NUPI says the interstice can be monitored with glycol, that brine must not be used, and recommends adding a suitable corrosion inhibitor.
- Are electrofusion entry boots fitted inside or outside the sump?
- Either. NUPI notes that SEBE and SEBEP boots can be installed on the outside of the sump to make better use of the space inside.
