SMARTFLEX double wall system
Pipe-in-pipe secondary containment with a continuous, monitorable interstitial space.
Overview
A SMARTFLEX double wall line places the lined primary pipe inside a second HDPE pipe. NUPI stresses that this outer pipe is a real pressure-rated polyethylene pipe, able to hold the pressure or vacuum of an automatic leak monitoring system, rather than a thin sleeve. Where a standard such as UL, or a client specification, calls for it, the secondary pipe can also be ordered with its own inner barrier layer.
What makes the system work is the fitting range. SMARTFLEX double wall electrofusion fittings are fully coaxial, so the space between the two pipes runs unbroken through couplers (SMEDW), tees (STEDW), elbows and bends (SGEDW, SCEDW). The interstice is reached through termination fittings (SETFV, SETFCV) with quick-connect valves that suit common pneumatic components, or through test port versions of the fittings (SCEDWTP, SGEDWTP, SMEDWTP, STEDWTP) that remove the need for bypass test tubing. Vacuum, pressure, liquid or gas leak monitoring can all be used.
Six primary and secondary size pairs are available, from 32 mm inside 40 mm up to 160 mm inside 225 mm. - Yes. The double wall fittings are coaxial, so the interstice is continuous along the line, and it can be accessed at termination fittings SETFV or SETFCV or at test port fittings without bypass tubing.
