Safe-T-Breaks®
Stops the fuel on both sides of a drive-off.
A Safe-T-Break® sits in the hose between the dispenser and the nozzle. When a vehicle drives off with the nozzle still in its tank, the coupling separates at a set pull force and instant-closing dual poppet check valves shut on both halves, so neither the dispenser side nor the hose side releases fuel. All Husky Safe-T-Breaks® have passed the UL test requirements on separations without leaking or failing.

Reconnectable models retain their UL listing after reconnection and separate on ball bearings and a latch ring at less than 200 lbf/889.6 N; non-reconnectable models use shear pins and are light and inexpensive to replace. The range adds pressure compensating chambers against line shock, MAGBREAK® magnetic breaks in a polymer housing, balance and vacuum assist vapour recovery versions, stainless steel DEF breaks, E25 and E85 ethanol types and an inline break that threads into the nozzle. Apex supplies, installs and services Husky Safe-T-Breaks® in Lebanon.
Key features
- Instant-closing dual poppet check valves stop the fuel on both sides of the separation
- Reconnectable models retain their UL listing after reconnection; a pre-loaded spring and single turn wave spring resist nuisance separations from sudden pressure build-up in the hose
- Standard reconnectable models separate at less than 200 lbf/889.6 N and low-pull versions at less than 115 lbf/511.5 N, which minimises the backlash force of separation
- Non-reconnectable models separate on shear pins at less than 300 lbf/1334.4 N and are light, inexpensive and disposable
- PCC models carry an internal pressure compensating chamber that prevents line shock nuisance separations
- MAGBREAK® and G2 MAGBREAK®: low scuff, high impact polymer housing, twist-to-lock reconnection, separation at less than 225 or 200 pounds pull force; the G2 is 40% lighter with a 15% smaller housing diameter
- Balance and vacuum assist vapour recovery versions have a vapour valve that stops vapour escaping after a drive-away; vacuum assist types are EVR certified per CARB CP-201
- DEF Safe-T-Breaks® in stainless steel or anodised aluminium with 100% DEF compatible parts
- E25 and E85 versions with electroless nickel plated aluminium bodies
- ¾" and 1" NPT and BSPP threads; ATEX versions (II 1 G, EN 13617-2) carry an A suffix; scuff guards in 11 standard colours
How it works
How a Safe-T-Break® stops a drive-off from becoming a spill.
Select step 3 or 4 to see the coupling separate. All Husky Safe-T-Breaks® stop the flow of fuel on both sides of the separation and have passed the UL separation tests without leaking.

Where the break sits
The Safe-T-Break® is fitted in the hanging hardware between the dispenser and the nozzle, usually at the whip hose. Reconnectable, non-reconnectable, high volume, DEF, balance and vacuum-assist vapour recovery versions cover every hose type.
