Overview
An SSB screws straight into the nozzle and doubles as its hose swivel, so a drive-off protection needs no extra fitting in the hose line. Elaflex makes it in three sizes that follow its nozzle range. The SSB 16 suits the ZVA Slimline 2, the older ZVA Slimline and other makers' nozzles, for flows up to 80 l/min. The SSB 25 belongs on the ZVA 25 (up to 140 l/min) and the SSB 32 on the ZVA 32 (up to 200 l/min).
Each size has its own nozzle thread: M 34 x 1.5 for the SSB 16, M 42 x 1.5 for the SSB 25 and M 54 x 1.5 for the SSB 32. On the hose side the SSB 16 is made in five threads (1" BSP male or female, ¾" BSP female, ¾" NPT female and 1" NPT female), while the SSB 25 has a 1" BSP male and the SSB 32 a 1½" BSP male connection. A polyurethane sleeve protects the breakaway half: BS 16 on the SSB 16, BS 21 on the SSB 25 and the BT 32 break cover on the SSB 32.
The body is aluminium, the swivel nut stainless steel and the inner parts fuel-resistant plastics. Every unit is factory tested and carries a serial number and a Data Matrix Code that opens its record in the ELAFLEX Product ID App. Suffix letters pick the special types: NR (cannot be reassembled), LT (down to -55 °C ambient), AS (800 N to 1200 N to Australian Standard AS2229), ERS (easy rotating swivel), Vi (for very volatile, aggressive fuels) and DC (closes on both sides). Questions
SSB 16, SSB 25 and SSB 32 safety swivel breaks: common questions
- Which SSB do I need for my nozzle?
- Match it to the nozzle: SSB 16 for ZVA Slimline 2 (and most car nozzles with an M 34 x 1.5 thread), SSB 25 for ZVA 25, and SSB 32 for ZVA 32.
- Can an SSB be used again after a drive-off?
- The standard types are reusable and self-closing, so they can be reconnected after a separation. Choose the 'NR' type if you want a break that cannot be reassembled.
- What does the DC version add?
- A DC (double closing) break stops the fuel on both sides after separation, which cuts the already small spill of the standard type further. Elaflex makes it to comply with country-specific rules, to EN 13617-2 and INMETRO Portaria No. 17.
