CSB 21 COAX safety break
Drive-off protection for Stage II vapour recovery nozzles and COAX hoses.
Overview
On a vapour recovery dispenser the break has to seal two paths, fuel and vapour, and still fit between the nozzle and the coaxial hose. The CSB 21 is Elaflex's answer. It screws directly into the ZVA Slimline 2 GR, GRV or GRVP (or another maker's Stage II nozzle) with M 34 x 1.5 threads on both ends, and on separation it closes itself so fuel stops flowing at the hose end.
It is built to EN 13617-2 for standard gasoline fuels, including ethanol blends, at up to 3.5 bar and 45 l/min, in temperatures from -20 °C to +55 °C. Catalogue page 533c gives the release force as 650 N to 1500 N in an axial or angular pull. The body is coated aluminium, the inner parts fuel-resistant plastics and the seals FKM and NBR. The unit is about 89.5 mm long and weighs about 0.13 kg. A polyurethane BS 21 sleeve, an integral part of the break, protects the breakaway half, and each CSB 21 is factory tested with a serial number and a Data Matrix Code for the ELAFLEX Product ID App.
Several variants cover local rules and site needs. The NR type cannot be put back together after a drive-off, the AS type releases between 800 N and 1200 N to Australian Standard AS2229, and the CSB 21 DC has a stainless steel body and closes both sides after separation. The SG-CSB 21 adds a sight glass, with an optional propeller, so attendants can see bubble-free flow. Apex supplies, installs and services CSB 21 breaks in Lebanon.

CSB 21 COAX safety break: common questions
- Can I use a standard SSB 16 on a vapour recovery nozzle?
- No. A Stage II nozzle needs a break that also carries the vapour path. The CSB 21 is the COAX version made for the ZVA Slimline 2 GR family and other vapour recovery nozzles.
- What flow rate is the CSB 21 rated for?
- Up to 45 l/min, which matches the vapour recovery nozzle it is designed for.
- Is the CSB 21 reusable after a drive-off?
- Yes, the standard type is reusable and self-closing. A non-reusable 'NR' type is also available.
